We made it to Medellin yesterday and it is definitely a stunning and beautiful country. Surrounded by mountains, the hills are lush and green and striking.
Our taxi ride from the airport took about 30 and we drove through a long tunnel before emerging on the city of Medellin.
Part of me half expected a Tijuana experience but the city had a different vibe. The people are friendly and welcoming.
We are staying at one of the city’s many boutique hotels located in the hills of El Poblado, one of Medellin’s more upscale neighborhoods. Versus Hotel brands itself as a wellness center and includes yoga and sound healing classes. It also has a restaurant that serves healthy meals and a coffee bar.
We journeyed down the hill to the train station in the heat of the day. I learned streets labeled Calle usually take you up and down the mountain from where we are staying; the carrera runs north and south along the mountain.
I was a little tired from travel but knew the walk would be a good way to orient ourselves to the city. It was quite a descent and somewhat treacherous is spots because of the traffic. But we made it.
